sculpture in copenhagen
This project plays with the repetition, translation, and scaling of quadrilaterals, shaped around site’s undulating topology, to bring the sculptures of Copenhagen into the public light.
The pavilion traces irregular quadrilaterals around each wave, specifically informed by the waves’ structures. At the ground level, the quadrilaterals are scaled and raised in regular ways around the waves to transform them into exhibition platforms for a selection of three sculptures from the Glyptotek and Thorvaldsen collections. The two quadrilaterals between the waves have raised floors and lowered ceilings to compress the space and move people towards the waves/sculptures. These compact spaces are used for the project’s programmatic requirements, including a coat check, a small coffee bar, a museum shop, bathrooms, and storage space. As the site progresses towards the Glyptotek, the pavilion progressively expands to embrace the museum.
